What Does the SAP Program Actually Cost?
Straight numbers, no sales pitch:
- SAP evaluation: $450–$650 is the normal range. Some charge more in big metros; some remote providers charge less.
- Education/treatment program: $150–$500 for typical education courses; clinical treatment costs more if your evaluation requires it.
- Return-to-duty test: $60–$120, observed collection.
- Follow-up tests: $60–$120 each, minimum 6 in the first year.
- Realistic total: most drivers spend $800–$1,500 to get back to driving.
How to avoid overpaying
- Get quotes from at least two SAPs — prices for the identical service vary by hundreds of dollars.
- Ask if remote evaluation is offered. It is legal under DOT rules and often cheaper and faster.
- Beware of anyone selling a "guaranteed fast pass." The process is federally regulated; nobody can skip steps.
